Russian forces attack Ukrainian gas extraction facilities for second straight day
For the second consecutive day, Russian forces have targeted gas extraction assets of Ukraine's Naftogaz Group. Strikes hit multiple facilities in Poltava, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions, causing major fires and halting operations.

On 5 July, Russian forces again deliberately attacked extraction assets of the Naftogaz Group, Ukraine's largest national oil and gas company. Several facilities in Poltava, Kharkiv, and Sumy oblasts were struck simultaneously.
According to a Facebook post by Naftogaz Group CEO Serhii Koretskyi, the Russians are using various types of drones, including jet-powered ones. The strikes have been continuing almost without interruption since the morning of 4 July.
Major damage to extraction infrastructure
Major fires broke out at a number of extraction facilities, causing significant destruction and forcing equipment operations to halt. Koretskyi stated that there were no casualties among workers. "It is currently impossible to determine the scale of the destruction. The full extent of the damage can only be assessed once the security situation allows," he added.
On the morning of 4 July, Russian drones had already attacked one of the Naftogaz Group's gas extraction assets in Poltava Oblast, causing a fire and stopping operations at that facility.
