The amateur theatre «Laucis» in Jaunsaule invites the public to its 40th anniversary celebration on June 22 at 7 PM, featuring the premiere of the play «Veltiņas misija» and a festive programme on the banks of the Mēmele River.

This evening, June 22, at 7 PM, the amateur theatre «Laucis» in Jaunsaule celebrates its 40th anniversary on the banks of the Mēmele River. The event features the premiere of Ināra Šteinberga's play «Veltiņas misija», whose plot remains a secret but promises humour. The cast includes experienced amateur actors and one newcomer.
Director Inga Cepure, who also works as a teacher and has taken directing courses, including this year at the Latvian Academy of Culture, emphasizes that the small troupe must be versatile. They handle costumes, sets, props, and makeup themselves, which she calls an exciting hobby.
The troupe «Laucis» has operated for 40 years with some interruptions. In the past, actors Rita and Jānis Bethers stood out – Rita as an actress and prompter, Jānis as an actor, director, and set designer. For the last four years, new productions have been staged just before Jāņi (Midsummer), attracting locals and visitors from afar.
In addition to the play, tonight offers a farmers' market and a dance party. Guests from other amateur theatres in Stelpe, Bārbele, and Īslīce, as well as local groups from Vecsaule parish, are expected. Organizers say this will be the biggest celebration of the year in Jaunsaule.
