Ex-Mayor of Jēkabpils Appeals Verdict in Basketball Club Document Falsification Case
Former Jēkabpils mayor Raivis Salcevičs has filed an appeal against a court ruling that found him guilty of falsifying annual reports of the basketball club 'Jēkabpils'.

Raivis Salcevičs, the former mayor of Jēkabpils, has appealed a court verdict in a criminal case involving the falsification of financial documents of the basketball club "Jēkabpils". According to case materials, Salcevičs, as chairman of the club's board, fabricated invoices and falsified annual reports concerning management services linked to the company SIA "Science House 5", which had been liquidated several years prior.
Prosecutor Kristaps Radkēvičs previously told Latvijas Televīzija that fictitious invoices were issued for €18,000 in 2019 and €48,000 in 2020. The submission of the annual reports occurred while Salcevičs was also serving as an advisor to then Finance Minister Jānis Reirs (New Unity).
In September last year, Latvijas Televīzija reported that Salcevičs had admitted guilt in the case. He has now filed an appeal, seeking a more favorable outcome.
It is also known that the former mayor is involved in another criminal investigation being conducted by the State Police's Economic Crime Division. As the investigation is ongoing, police have declined to provide further comments.
