Jelgava County KU Vows to Ensure Waste Collection in New Territories, Apologizes for Inconvenience

As of July, the municipal company "Jelgavas novada KU" is responsible for household waste management throughout Jelgava County. Previously, the county was divided into two zones: Ozolnieki, Cenu, and Salgales parishes were served by "CleanR", while the remaining parishes were handled by the municipal company. Following amendments to local regulations, a single zone has been in effect since July 1, terminating CleanR's contracts.

The transition has faced challenges. "Jelgavas novada KU" acknowledges delays in placing new containers and urges residents to continue using containers left by the previous operator. The company apologizes for poor communication and recent inconveniences, promising to resolve all issues.

Meanwhile, "CleanR" claims that on June 30 it was informed that the new operator was not ready to start due to a lack of containers. CleanR says it offered to lease the necessary containers, but the municipality states that CleanR began removing its containers as early as June 26, ignoring requests to coordinate a planned replacement.

The Climate and Energy Ministry has intervened. Minister Jānis Vitenbergs convened a meeting on Friday with representatives of the municipality, Jelgavas novada KU, and CleanR. Vitenbergs stressed that residents must not suffer in such situations, and after the meeting, a concrete action plan was agreed to quickly provide the needed containers.

Until container replacement is complete, temporary solutions are in place. Public recycling containers have been placed at several locations (Ozolnieki, Āne, Brankas, Garoza, Emburga) for free use. Additionally, Jelgavas novada KU provides marked household waste bags at its customer service center, which residents can use until their individual container is installed.
