Jelgava Municipality Seeks Nominations for Its Most Active Seniors
Jelgava Municipality is accepting nominations until 17 November for the “Active European in Jelgava Municipality 2026” contest honouring active seniors. Winners will be recognised on 10 December.

Residents of Jelgava Municipality in Latvia have until 17 November to nominate seniors for the contest “Active European in Jelgava Municipality 2026”, the local government has announced. The contest honours people who take an active part in local community and public life. Winners are to be recognised on 10 December.
Who can be nominated
Nominees must be at least 65 years old and registered as residents of Jelgava Municipality. They should be active in their community, propose and carry out new ideas, foster cooperation between different social groups and generations, and inspire others by example.
The contest aims to recognise seniors who embody European values such as solidarity, mutual respect, equality and responsibility toward others in their daily lives, and who share their knowledge and experience.
Who can nominate
Anyone may submit a nomination: family members, relatives, friends, acquaintances or neighbours. However, seniors who have received an award in one of the municipality's earlier contests during the past three years cannot be nominated. These are “Skilful Senior in Jelgava Municipality 2023”, “My Grandparents' Life Legacy 2024” and “Inquisitive European in Jelgava Municipality 2025”.
Evaluation and awards
Applications will be assessed from 19 to 27 November, with one senior put forward from each parish of the municipality. Winners will be honoured on 10 December and will receive the municipality's Certificates of Appreciation and prizes.
This is the 15th time the contest is being held. It is organised under the project “Europe Direct Centre in Jelgava”, in cooperation with the association “Jelgava Municipality Seniors” and the municipality's Social Affairs Administration.
