University of Latvia Offers Free Legal Consultations
The University of Latvia's Faculty of Law legal practice centre provides free consultations on family, labour and housing law. Appointments are required, and the service runs from mid-October to mid-May.

The Legal Practice and Assistance Centre at the University of Latvia's (LU) Faculty of Law is offering residents free legal consultations on family law, labour law and housing law. The service is intended for the general public, including low-income people, for whom legal help can otherwise be hard to access.
How the consultations work
The consultations are prepared and delivered by the faculty's law students in cooperation with professionals in the field. Each case, and the solution the students prepare, is checked by experienced academic staff, sworn advocates and their assistants before it is given to the client.
The centre has operated since 1999. Its aim is to let students practise under the supervision of experienced lecturers and sworn advocates, while also providing the public with accessible legal assistance.
Practical information
Consultations cover family, labour and housing law. They are available from mid-October to mid-May and are held only by prior appointment.
People can sign up by calling 67034737 or by writing to the e-mail address given in the centre's contact details.
