Jelgava Market to Relocate to New Site from August 1
Starting August 1, Jelgava market will move to a new location on Zemgales Prospekts and Sporta Street, while the old site will lose its market status.

The Jelgava City Council decision, adopted in June, stipulates that from August 1 the market will relocate to a new territory at 19A Zemgales Prospekts and 2B Sporta Street. The previous market site on Ausekļa and Uzvaras Streets will cease to be a market from that date.
SIA "Jelgavas tirgus" has already informed all tenants about the planned changes. Along with granting market status to the new location, new market regulations have been approved, defining the future trading rules.
At the new location, the market will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. This season, traders can sign lease agreements for spots in the enclosed pavilion or in the open area. They may also trade from cars or use their own canopies. Next year, the market plans to provide permanent trading spots outside the pavilion as well.
Currently, over 100 tenants operate at Jelgava market. All are offered the opportunity to sign a contract and continue their work at the new market territory.
The new market building near the railway station was constructed by the private company partnership "JLa Developers". The development rights stipulate that the market must start operations no later than October 1. If the company fails to meet its obligations, penalties will be imposed, and the municipality will seek other solutions to enable traders to continue their work.
