Juris Strenga Celebrates 89th Birthday, Aims to Reach 90
Latvian stage legend Juris Strenga celebrated his 89th birthday on June 13. The actor reveals his main goal is to live to 90, while expressing skepticism about world events and sharing reflections on aging and reading.

On June 13, beloved actor and Dailes Theatre legend Juris Strenga celebrated his 89th birthday. In an interview with magazine "Kas Jauns", he admitted that his primary goal now is to reach the age of 90.
Strenga spent the anniversary quietly with family, without lavish celebrations. The actor says he has become much calmer in recent years and no longer feels the need to convince anyone. He has come to terms with events in Latvia and the world, which he considers pointless, but does not impose his views on others.
Reading and theatre
Strenga revealed that due to deteriorating eyesight, he no longer reads books, including theoretical literature about theatre. His previously collected library now sits in a shed next to firewood, as he believes many wisdoms are outdated and life moves faster than books can keep up. Nevertheless, he regularly attends theatre performances and follows cultural life, preferring live theatre.
Daily life and gardening
In his free time, Strenga stays at home and works in the garden, weeding with his "little fingers". He is not particularly interested in traveling; he values peace and simple daily activities. The actor humorously comments on his zodiac sign – Gemini – calling it a "terrible misfortune" because it makes him reach out in all directions without a single main anchor point.
