How to remove Gemini from your Android phone and switch back to Google Assistant
Android users unhappy with Gemini can easily revert to Google Assistant. This article outlines the steps for standard and branded Android devices.

Many Android users are frustrated with Gemini due to slow responses, misunderstanding commands, or inaccurate information. If you're tired of seeing the error message "Something went wrong, please try again," you can switch back to Google Assistant.
How to switch back to Google Assistant on a standard Android phone
- Open Settings.
- Go to the Apps menu.
- Find the Assistant option.
- Scroll down to the "Digital assistants from Google" section.
- Here you can choose which digital assistant you want to use – pick Google Assistant instead of Gemini.
- Confirm the switch, and you're done.
If your phone has a branded Android skin
Phones with Samsung (One UI), Xiaomi (HyperOS), or Oppo (ColorOS) may not have the same menu options. Instead, follow these steps:
- Open the Google app.
- Tap your Google profile photo at the top right corner.
- Open the Settings menu.
- Tap the Google Assistant option.
- Scroll down until you find the "Digital assistants from Google" section.
- Tap on it – from this screen you can choose between Gemini and Google Assistant.
If you also want to reduce Gemini's presence in other Google apps (like Gmail or Chrome), you'll need additional settings. Note that removing Gemini from Workspace apps means losing some features. To see fewer Gemini-powered results in web searches, you can turn off Google's AI Overviews.
