Kagi Search Can Now Be Tried Without an Account

Kagi, an ad-free paid search engine, now lets anyone run 50 searches without signing up. Registering unlocks 100 more.

The team behind the Kagi search engine announced on 5 November that anyone can now try the service without creating an account. Kagi is a search engine that shows no ads and is offered to users as a paid product. The company says that instead of advertising it relies on word of mouth and its presence on social media and online communities.

According to the company, it was hard for people to recommend Kagi to friends and family because they could not test it without registering. Now anyone can visit kagi.com and search the web. The first 50 searches require no account, and registering adds 100 more.

Appeal to schools

The developers also responded to Google's announcement that, from early 2027, AI tools will be switched off by default in school accounts. In Kagi's view, the problem is that Google Search will be switched off along with them. The company argues that education should not be held hostage by an advertising company, and in an open letter it urges schools not to accept this choice, naming Kagi as one alternative.

Other updates

The changelog also lists improvements to the Android app: a redesigned home screen that shows how many free searches remain, rebuilt voice search, search by image, and a Quick Answer button next to search suggestions. Updates also cover the Assistant apps, the Kagi News service and the Kagi Translate tool, along with a large number of fixes for user-reported bugs.
