'Neighbourhood Life' invites communities in Liepāja, Kuldīga and South Kurzeme to submit projects
The 'Liepāja 2027' foundation has launched the 'Neighbourhood Life' project competition, inviting local community groups to submit ideas for strengthening neighbourhoods. Selected projects will become part of the 'Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027' programme.

The 'Liepāja 2027' foundation is calling on associations, foundations and small businesses from neighbourhood communities in Liepāja, Kuldīga and the South Kurzeme municipality to apply for its 'Neighbourhood Life' project competition. The initiative aims to support local ideas that strengthen ties between neighbours and encourage cooperation among residents.
Projects submitted and selected through the programme will become part of the wider 'Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027' programme. Organisers stress that such projects will not only enrich the Capital of Culture year's events but also leave a lasting impact by fostering community cooperation beyond 2027.
Inspiration from neighbouring countries
Representatives of 'Liepāja 2027' point to the experience of neighbouring Lithuania and Estonia as evidence of the value of such initiatives, noting that community engagement programmes tied to European Capital of Culture years have proven significant in strengthening cooperation among local residents there.
The competition targets neighbourhood associations, foundations and small businesses with ideas for strengthening their local area and the connections between people living there. The organisers' announcement does not specify detailed application conditions or deadlines, but describes the initiative as growing stronger following the response it has received in previous years.
