Country Music Festival Moves from Bauska to Saulkrasti, Introduces Steampunk Concept
The Bauska country music festival will take place in Saulkrasti on July 10–11 this year instead of at the Bauska hillfort stage due to reconstruction. The festival will adopt a 'Steampunk Country' concept, blending country music with steampunk aesthetics.

The annual country music festival, previously held at the Bauska hillfort stage, is relocating to Saulkrasti this summer. Longtime organizer Mārtiņš Ruža explained that the move is necessary because the Bauska stage is undergoing reconstruction. The new location offers a modern stage, proximity to the sea and Riga, which is expected to attract a larger and more diverse audience.
This year's festival will feature a new theme: 'Steampunk Country'. The concept combines traditional country music with steampunk visual style, inspired by an alternate historical fantasy where steam-era technology continued to evolve. According to Ruža, this is the first event of its kind in the Baltic region. Steampunk elements will be integrated into the overall atmosphere, not just the music.
The festival is organized in close cooperation with the Saulkrasti municipality and local cultural institutions. Ruža emphasized that the city recognizes the economic and tourism benefits of the event. However, he expressed criticism over the Bauska municipality organizing a steampunk-themed bike ride in Vecumnieki on the same weekend. On Facebook, he called it 'ugly' and disrespectful to the festival organizers who have invested months of work and financial risk.
The program on July 10 includes performances by Zelta Kniede, Dēka, Edvards Strazdiņš, Dakota, and DJ Johansons. On July 11, there will be a KuKū market, American car parade, line dancing, and other activities. Main stage performers include Sabīne Berezina & SB Band, Aivars Birzmalis, Eddie Dove Band, The Rolltones, and Czech band Lucy & Hangover. The event will be hosted by Māris Grigalis.
Ruža noted that the country music festival in Iecava is not a competitor, as each event has its own concept and audience.
