Many people complain to trainers that they eat little and exercise, yet their weight does not change. Personal trainer Monika Kahro explains that the issue is often not a lack of effort, but a lack of basic knowledge.

First, people often underestimate all the small snacks and additions they consume during the day. For example, someone might think they take in only 1600 kilocalories, but the actual amount may be higher. Kahro emphasizes that no one is intentionally lying; it is simply hard to track every bite.

Second, many follow a diet plan only on workdays and allow themselves more on weekends. Others do not use a scale and measure food by eye, which often leads to errors. Still others skip main meals but eat several small, calorie-dense snacks throughout the day, so the total calorie intake does not decrease.

Third, people may eat little but choose foods high in calories and low in essential nutrients. This means the body gets too many empty calories while missing vital substances. As a result, metabolism may slow down and weight may not drop.

The trainer concludes that overeating is not always the culprit – often there is a lack of evidence-based information and misunderstandings about what it means to “eat little.”
