Heatwave hits children and youth hardest: medics warn of common mistakes
The Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) reports that during the heatwave, most victims are children and young people who do not drink enough and overheat both outdoors and indoors.

In recent days, the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) has received an increased number of calls related to overheating. Medics point out that the most common group requiring assistance is children who spend long periods outdoors and do not consume enough fluids. Children often do not feel thirsty, so parents must ensure they drink water regularly.
Another common mistake is the misconception that water provides complete protection from heat. NMPD notes that even while swimming in a pool, children can overheat if precautions are not taken.
Medics also receive calls about young people who engage in sports or other physical activities outdoors in hot weather, resulting in overheating and the need for medical help.
The third most frequent patient group is people who overheat in poorly ventilated and overheated indoor spaces. NMPD emphasizes the need to regularly ventilate rooms and, if possible, cool them down to reduce the risk of overheating.
