Although hemorrhoids are often considered an embarrassing topic, they are actually a very common condition. According to proctologist Anastasija Vaļuka from 'Health Center 4', approximately one in two people experience hemorrhoids, and the number may be even higher because many patients choose to self-treat or are too ashamed to seek help.

Hemorrhoids, or 'vascular cushions', are natural clusters of blood vessels in the lower rectum that are present from birth. Their main function is to ensure a tight seal of the anal opening to prevent leakage of gas or feces. Problems arise when these cushions become enlarged, swollen, and cause discomfort or pain – this is when hemorrhoids become a pathology.

The expert notes that there is a lack of understanding in society about this disease, partly because it is considered shameful. However, it is important to remember that hemorrhoids are very common and treatable. To avoid them, it is recommended to follow a healthy diet, avoid prolonged sitting, and exercise regularly.
