The Valmiera basketball club announced on social media that 32-year-old Kaspars Vecvagars is leaving his position as head coach after three seasons. The club thanked him for his energy, professionalism, and demanding nature, noting that he left a significant mark on the club and Valmiera's basketball story.

Vecvagars joined the team in 2023 as an assistant coach immediately after ending his professional playing career. Last season, he took over as head coach. During his playing career, he represented multiple teams: in Lithuania – "LSU-Atletas" Kaunas, "Lietkabelis" Panevėžys, and "Žalgiris" Kaunas; in Latvia – "VEF Rīga" and "Jūrmala"; one season in Poland with "Wilki Morskie" Szczecin; in Spain – "Palencia", "Força Lleida", and "Basquet Girona"; and in the Netherlands – "Heroes Den Bosch".

Vecvagars will now become the head coach of Žalgiris Kaunas' second team, replacing Rokas Kondratavičs, who recently became head coach of "Rīgas Zeļļi". The Žalgiris reserve team competes in the second-tier Lithuanian league and also participates in the Euroleague Youth Tournament.
