A church bus carrying worshippers home from a bishop's funeral collided with a dump truck on Kenya's Nairobi–Mombasa highway, killing at least 24 people. Police and local authorities are still investigating the exact circumstances.

At least 24 people have died in a road accident on the Nairobi–Mombasa highway in Kenya, an East African country, after a church bus collided with a dump truck. The bus belonged to the Power of the Word Church and was taking worshippers home from a bishop's burial. Many of the victims were members of the church.
How the crash happened
According to the news agency Reuters, the bus driver tried to avoid a head-on collision, veered off the road and the vehicle overturned. The accident took place near the settlement of Mtito Andei.
Some survivors have said the bus had been travelling through the night. Police and local authorities are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances of the crash.
A dangerous stretch of road
The crash is one of the most serious road accidents in Kenya in recent times. The Nairobi–Mombasa highway is one of the busiest and most dangerous roads in the country, and similarly serious crashes occur there regularly.
The Reuters report also included video footage from the scene, showing the badly damaged church bus and a truck.
