Fires broke out in Kyiv's Holosiivskyi district on the morning of August 30 following a Russian attack, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and the State Emergency Service (DSNS).
Klitschko reported that the district was hit in a strike on a two-storey non-residential building. Later that morning, debris falling in the same area set the roof of another non-residential building alight.
DSNS officials said rescuers had been working through the night to deal with the aftermath of attacks across several districts of the capital. As of the morning, firefighters were still battling blazes at multiple locations.
Preceding events
The fires follow several tense days in Kyiv. During the day on August 29, a Russian drone struck a non-residential building in the Podilskyi district, while in the Obolonskyi district a drone strike damaged a café, killing a two-year-old girl and injuring several people.
The number of people injured in Kyiv from the August 29 drone attacks later rose to eight, and a non-residential building in the capital was struck a second time. In the evening of August 29, falling drone debris in the Dniprovskyi district set fire to a private residential house.
