Air defense engages enemy drones in Kyiv and region; fire reported in Obolon district

During the night of June 15, 2026, air defense units were activated in Kyiv and the surrounding Kyiv region to counter a threat from Russian unmanned aerial vehicles. Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, stated that forces were "working to eliminate the threat in the sky over the capital."
He warned of the possibility of a "combined attack" on the city, involving multiple types of weapons. Residents reported hearing explosions associated with air defense operations. Later, Tkachenko confirmed that vehicles had caught fire in the Obolon district as a result of drone strikes.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, along with the Kyiv City State Administration, the Kyiv Military Administration, and the Kyiv Regional Administration, also confirmed ongoing air defense activity. No official information on casualties or further damage has been released.
