North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has ordered higher combat readiness across the country's army units, to be achieved through continuous and intensive military exercises. The order was reported by the South Korean newspaper The Korea Times. Kim described this as the most important duty of unit commanders, underscoring Pyongyang's continued focus on strengthening its military.

Demands placed on commanders

According to Kim, continuous and intensive training is the "main revolutionary task" of army unit commanders. He stressed that commanders must make sure their units are fully ready for war.

The leader said units should be turned into "forces capable of standing up to hundreds of enemies." He claimed that, thanks to the commanders' work, the prospects for building a strong army look "very promising." Kim added that units should stand out for "firm revolutionary conviction, patriotic spirit, unprecedented heroism and high combat effectiveness."

Peace and nuclear forces

Kim has repeatedly stressed the need to strengthen the army. He asserts that "true peace" in the country can be guaranteed only by building a strong army.

Despite protests from the international community, North Korea is also actively developing its nuclear forces. Kim has ordered an increase in the number of the country's nuclear weapons. In his words, "true peace" can be ensured only if a strong army is built and nuclear forces are reinforced.
