Latvian animated film «Laimīgie» hits cinema screens this week
A new Latvian feature-length animated film, «Laimīgie» (The Happy Ones), directed by Edmunds Jansons, opens in Latvian cinemas this week, telling the story of a nine-year-old girl's summer dilemma. The film explores the clash between new school friendships and a return home to family.

Latvian cinemas are this week adding a new homegrown animated feature to their lineup — «Laimīgie» (The Happy Ones), directed by Edmunds Jansons.
The story follows nine-year-old Elizabete, who must return home for the school holidays to her parents living in the rainforests of Venezuela. Having formed new friendships during the school year, Elizabete is reluctant to go back — to her, it means dull days without her friends and constantly having to deal with unwanted attention from her little brother.
The film offers a look into a child's inner world at a moment when she must weigh new friendships against family ties, and come to terms with the changes that come with returning home after time spent away from loved ones.
