Fish solyanka in Klapkalnciems: an autumn stop on the Kurzeme coast

In a dining review for the Sestdiena supplement of the Latvian newspaper Diena, critic Egīls Zirnis describes the Klapkalnciems fish shop-café, located right by the road in Klapkalnciems on the Kurzeme coast, along the Riga–Kolka road. The venue serves fish dishes, and the author says autumn is the right time to visit.
Why autumn
The author notes that whenever he drove past in summer, the car park was full, so getting in was practically impossible. After the summer season ends, many coastal eateries either close entirely or open only at weekends. This time the critic visited on a weekday, combining the trip with a mushroom-picking outing.
In the introduction, the author compares coastal destinations with ironic remarks: the Kurzeme coast offers more choice for quieter beaches, and coastal forests are a better pick for mushroom pickers than Vidzeme forests, where, as he writes, bears are being reported on social media.
