Masterful Cleary stars as NSW win Origin decider
Nathan Cleary scored two tries and kicked five goals as New South Wales stunned Queensland 30-12 to clinch the State of Origin series in Brisbane.

New South Wales produced a stunning upset to defeat Queensland 30-12 in the deciding game of the State of Origin series at Suncorp Stadium. Half-back Nathan Cleary was the standout performer, crossing for two tries and adding 10 points from the boot, including a crucial late penalty that sealed the victory for the Blues.
Dominant first half
Cleary opened the scoring after a sustained period of pressure, capitalising on a knock-on by Queensland winger Jojo Fifita. He added his second try following a brilliant break by Liam Martin and an offload from Mark Nawaqanitawase. Cameron Murray then powered over to give NSW an 18-0 lead.
Queensland fightback
Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow scored just before halftime to make it 18-4, and Selwyn Cobbo pulled the home side within 18-8 early in the second half. But Bradman Best’s length-of-the-field try, which survived a video review for a potential knock-on, restored NSW's momentum.
Controversial calls
Queensland thought they had narrowed the gap further when Robert Toia scored, but the try was disallowed due to Max Plath being offside. The Maroons also missed all three of their goal kicks, proving costly. Hudson Young added a late try to complete the 30-12 scoreline.
Key moments
Blues coach Laurie Daley, whose contract expired after the series, faced heavy criticism for his team selections but his gamble on several changes paid off. Rookie Jack Bostock made his debut, while fullback James Tedesco left the field with a head injury. For Queensland, Tabuai-Fidow extended his remarkable try-scoring record in Origin matches.
