Competition for employees intensifies – wages rise faster in some sectors
While overall wage growth in Latvia remains moderate, some sectors see significantly higher salary increases as employers compete for qualified specialists. The highest demand is still in lower-paid service and retail jobs.

Competition in the Latvian labor market for top specialists is growing, and this is clearly reflected in the salaries offered by employers. According to data from job portals and the real-time salary platform ERDA, which includes 87,000 job ads, overall wage growth in the country remains moderate, but in some industries employers are willing to pay significantly more than a year ago in an effort to attract and retain qualified staff.
The highest demand for workers remains in the service and retail sectors, where pay is typically lower. Meanwhile, higher-paid positions are found in entirely different industries, experts note. Analysis from job portals and the ERDA platform reveals uneven wage growth: in some professions salaries rise rapidly, while in others they stagnate.
This trend underscores the growing need for employers to compete with salary offers, especially in segments where qualified workers are scarce. However, detailed salary ranges and average pay for various professions and sectors are compiled in the mentioned databases, allowing employees to compare whether they receive fair compensation.
