Konotop, a city in Ukraine's north-eastern Sumy region, remains completely without electricity for a fourth day. The outage was caused by Russian strikes overnight on 24 October that damaged energy facilities. Officials have so far given no forecast for when power might be restored.

According to Konotop Mayor Artem Semenikhin, who spoke on public broadcaster Suspilne and posted on Telegram, the city was still without power on the night of 27 October, and most of it also has no gas supply.

The mayor said educational institutions were damaged and that the city's hospital is now running on generators. Water is supplied on a schedule: from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00. "Unfortunately, there are no forecasts for the lights. No forecasts at all," he wrote.

Sumyoblenergo, the regional power utility, said on Facebook that emergency crews are working non-stop to deal with the consequences of the strikes on energy facilities. However, the timing of the repairs depends on the security situation and on whether work is possible at the damaged sites.

What happened earlier

After 3:00 a.m. on 24 October, Russian forces carried out a massive drone attack on the Konotop community. They hit energy facilities, a school and private homes, causing a blackout.

Later the same day, a Russian drone struck a civilian agricultural business in Konotop district. A 31-year-old woman who worked on the farm was killed, and four other people were injured.
