The mixed choir “Pa Saulei” from the Garkalne parish cultural center “Berģi” in Ropaži county achieved remarkable success at the international choir competition “Cracovia Cantans”, held in Krakow, Poland. The ensemble won first places and gold diplomas in two categories: mixed choirs and folk music.

At the competition, the choir performed two pieces specially dedicated to them. Ģirts Celmiņš’s work “Kas tā tāda diža sēta” had its world premiere, while Laura Jēkabsone composed the piece “Neviens putniņš”. The choir also performed other folk music selections.

Artistic director Marta Ozola highlighted the significance of these compositions, noting they were written specifically for the choir. She expressed gratitude to the State Culture Capital Foundation and the Ropaži county municipality for financial support, as well as to the choir members’ families and supporters for their patience and moral encouragement during the intense competition period.

“Cracovia Cantans” is an international choir competition attracting ensembles from various countries. The achievement of the choir “Pa Saulei” once again demonstrates the high standard of Latvian choral art on the international stage.
