Russians Upgrade Shahed Drones with Automatic Targeting System
Russia is increasingly using a new modification of Shahed drones called "Geran Seeker," equipped with an automatic target recognition and guidance system, making them more dangerous for Ukrainian infrastructure.

Russian forces have begun more frequently using the term "Geran Seeker" to designate the latest modification of the Shahed (Geran) attack drones. These drones are equipped with an automatic target recognition and guidance system that allows them to independently complete an attack even if communication with the operator is lost.
This was reported by Ukrainian Defense Minister advisor and radio technology expert Serhiy "Flash" Beskrestnov. He noted that the "Seeker" is a specialized version capable of locking onto a target and continuing its trajectory without operator intervention. Such modules can be installed on various Shahed versions, from the second to the fourth. Recently, the jet-powered "Geran-4 Seeker" has been observed particularly often.
The modified drones are equipped with multiple cameras operating in different modes, as well as a radio network modem for communication with the operator. The automatic control system relies on machine vision algorithms powered by a Raspberry Pi single-board computer. According to the expert, once the operator acquires the target, the drone can autonomously move towards it without further human control.
This upgrade makes Russian unmanned aerial vehicles even more dangerous, as they can more effectively evade electronic warfare measures and continue their attack even if communications are disrupted.
