Garbage collection halted in four Russian districts due to fuel shortage
Garbage collection has been suspended in four districts of Russia's Zabaykalsky Krai because garbage trucks ran out of fuel, as the region grapples with a wider fuel crisis sparked by Ukrainian drone strikes on oil refineries.
The suspension was announced by regional operator Oleron+, affecting the Chernyshevsky, Sretensky, Gazimuro-Zavodsky, and Krasnokamensky districts. The company stated that collection would resume "once the situation stabilizes." Waste will be collected from overflowing bins without fail, and residents are asked for understanding.
The fuel crisis in Zabaykalsky Krai began in June 2026, with gas stations in Chita introducing purchase limits and altering hours. By the morning of June 25, gasoline had disappeared from nearly all filling stations. Authorities imposed fuel purchase limits in three districts—Zabaykalsky, Krasnokamensky, and Nerchinsky—citing excess demand.
Russia's fuel crisis has been ongoing for several weeks, starting amid Ukrainian drone strikes on oil refineries. Its scale continues to grow, with more than 20 regions introducing restrictions on gasoline sales.
