A Russian court has handed down a 12-year prison sentence to a journalist convicted of state treason. The case was heard behind closed doors, and details remain scarce, a common practice in such high-profile cases in the country.

According to the independent outlet Mediazona, the charges are linked to a money transfer. The publication T-Invariant, citing sources, reported that the journalist transferred money to Ukraine to a civilian, as per acquaintances of the accused.

Both outlets indicate that the journalist reached a deal with investigators and pleaded guilty. She was arrested on April 23, 2025, in Moscow and has been in pretrial detention since then.

The woman worked as a medical and science journalist, contributing to outlets such as RBK, Forbes, and Wonderzine.
