Russian drones damage Ukraine-Moldova border crossing in Odesa region
Overnight on August 25, Russia struck the Vinogradovka border checkpoint on the Ukraine-Moldova border with attack drones, damaging infrastructure and halting traffic. It was the second such strike on the crossing in under a week.
Overnight into August 25, Russian forces attacked the Vinogradovka international road border checkpoint, located in Ukraine's Odesa region on the border with Moldova, using Shahed-type attack drones. The strike was reported by the Ukrainian outlet Unian.
The attack damaged the checkpoint's infrastructure, though emergency crews have since brought the resulting fire under control.
Traffic halted
Movement of people and vehicles through the checkpoint has currently been fully suspended, and Moldovan authorities have been informed of the situation. Vehicles that were due to cross the border at this point are being redirected to other available checkpoints.
Ukrainian border guards have urged travelers to take the situation into account when planning to cross the state border.
Second such incident within a week
This is not the first time Russian drones have hit infrastructure at the Ukraine-Moldova border. During a massive drone attack on August 20, a border checkpoint in the same border area was also struck. The incident shows that Russian attack drones are increasingly reaching areas close to Ukraine's neighboring countries, adding further tension to the region.
