Russian law requires migrant workers' children to leave within 30 days of turning 18 unless they qualify to stay

Russia's State Duma passed a bill tightening rules for migrant workers. Under the new law, children of foreign workers must leave Russia within 30 days of turning 18 if they have no independent legal basis to remain.

The Russian State Duma, the lower house of parliament, passed a bill in its second and third readings that tightens the rules governing migrant workers' stay in the country. The bill amends the law "On the Legal Status of Foreign Nationals in the Russian Federation."

Under the new rules, foreign nationals working in Russia must support themselves and their families at a level no lower than the subsistence minimum multiplied by the regional coefficient. If a foreign worker's income falls below that threshold, authorities may decline to renew their labor patent or work permit — at which point the worker must leave the country within 15 days, along with any minor children.

The bill also requires the children of foreign workers to leave Russia within 30 days of turning 18 if they have no other legal basis for remaining in the country or have not applied for their own labor patent. This move is part of broader efforts to tighten migration controls and reduce the number of foreign workers staying in Russia.
