Russian opposition politician Boris Nadezhdin has announced the termination of his campaign for the State Duma, citing that he can no longer run due to being designated a 'foreign agent' and fined under an 'extremist' article.
Boris Nadezhdin, a Russian opposition politician, has announced the end of his election campaign for the State Duma. He stated that he can no longer run for parliament because of his status as a 'foreign agent' and a fine under an 'extremist' article.
"They are shutting my mouth, pushing me out of politics, making life very difficult. For me, the opportunities to legally engage in opposition politics in Russia are exhausted. Hopefully temporarily," Nadezhdin wrote.
He added that he now needs to think about how to live further. "I hope I stay alive and free," Nadezhdin said.
On July 17, a court in the Moscow region fined the politician 1,000 rubles for an administrative offense of displaying extremist symbols – due to a link to a video featuring a photo of Alexei Navalny. On July 10, Nadezhdin was designated as a 'foreign agent'.
