Russian missile strike on Odesa injures eight people

Russian forces launched a missile and drone attack on Odesa overnight on 8-9 August, injuring at least eight people, according to Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Oblast Military Administration.

Kiper said seven of the injured are in moderate condition, with most having sustained shrapnel wounds. He noted that Russia used "several dozen missiles and drones" in the strike, though Ukraine's Air Force has not disclosed the exact number of missiles fired.

Odesa itself sustained the heaviest damage, with several residential buildings damaged or partially destroyed across two districts of the city. Cars were also destroyed or damaged in the attack.

Earlier, Serhii Lysak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration, had reported that six people were known to be injured and were receiving necessary assistance, while residential buildings in several districts and multiple vehicles had been damaged or destroyed by fire.

The casualty figures were updated as city and oblast officials continued to assess the scale of the overnight attack.
