Russian forces carried out bomb strikes on the northern Ukrainian city of Sumy overnight into Monday, injuring at least five civilians, regional governor Oleh Hryhorov said in a statement posted on the Telegram messaging app.

According to Hryhorov, the strikes caused damage in a number of residential areas across the city. He did not provide further details on the condition of those injured or the extent of the destruction to buildings.

Sumy, located near Ukraine's border with Russia, has repeatedly come under attack in recent months. The region's proximity to Russian territory has made it a frequent target of Russian military strikes throughout the ongoing war.
