Russian strike kills two teenage girls in Chernihiv
A Russian Banderol cruise missile strike on the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv has killed two teenage girls. Meanwhile, a separate US-brokered local truce around the occupied city of Oleshky in the Kherson region is reported to be holding.

A Russian strike on the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv has killed two teenage girls. The local military administration said the attack used a Banderol cruise missile, a relatively cheap jet-powered weapon that can loiter in an area before hitting its target.
Footage from the scene shows firefighters hurrying to put out burning cars and to tackle flames and smoke coming from damaged buildings. Rescuers are seen carrying a person into an ambulance, and a body lies under a blanket nearby. Businesses, homes and vehicles were damaged.
Truce in the Kherson region
The strike came while a separate, US-brokered ceasefire was reported to be holding in southern Ukraine, around the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky in the Kherson region. Ukrainian and Russian human rights ombudsmen said on Wednesday that the local truce had passed 30 hours without an incident.
Images released by Russia's Defence Ministry purportedly show military engineers clearing mines near Oleshky, though the date of filming was not provided. The operation is meant to open routes for humanitarian aid and let residents who wish to leave do so.
About 2,000 people are believed to remain in the city, where food, water and medicine have been scarce for months. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the respite but said that evacuating civilians would be crucial to the truce's success.
