More than 350,000 customers in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro and surrounding settlements have been left without electricity after fresh Russian attacks. The information came from Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration. The outage results from strikes that have affected the city's power supply and touches a very large number of residents.

What the official said

Hanzha said the enemy had attacked Dnipro yet again during the day. He described the figure of 350,000 as preliminary, so it may change as the situation is clarified.

According to him, power engineers are working to restore the electricity supply. Meanwhile, water supply and sewage pumping stations are being moved to backup power from generators, so that these services can keep running without centralised electricity.

What came before

Earlier, the energy company DTEK reported that part of Dnipro and neighbouring districts had lost power. It linked this to a Russian attack on the trunk grid, the networks that carry electricity over long distances.

The source does not say how long the outage may last, and it gives no information on casualties or other consequences of the attacks.
