First Court Hearing for Estonian Basketball Player Kerr Kriisa; Family and Club Shocked
Kerr Kriisa, an Estonian basketball player arrested for large-scale fraud, was released with conditions after his first court appearance. His family and Tartu club express surprise.

The first court hearing has taken place for Estonian basketball player Kerr Kriisa, who was arrested in the United States on charges of large-scale fraud. Although released from custody, the case is far from over.
Kriisa's family and his Estonian club, Tartu, are in shock over the developments. In an interview with local media, his mother Kersti said that communication with her son suddenly stopped and she was unaware of any allegations. His father Valmo stated he knew nothing about the potential charges.
Tartu's sports director Janar Talts noted that the current contract is secondary and the club is awaiting the outcome of the US legal proceedings. Tartu has not yet terminated the contract.
The first hearing was held in Lexington, Kentucky, where Kriisa appeared in handcuffs. The court released him under conditions: he must not commit new offenses, surrender his passport (preventing international travel), and have no contact with the victims. The case was transferred to West Virginia, with the next hearing scheduled for July 16. Kriisa will remain in Kentucky until then.
Kriisa previously played in the NCAA for West Virginia, Arizona, Kentucky, and Cincinnati. Last season at Cincinnati, he averaged 5.8 points, 3 assists, and 1.3 rebounds in 19 games.
