Four-Time Tour de France Winner Chris Froome Won't Return to Professional Cycling
Chris Froome, a four-time Tour de France champion, has decided not to continue his professional career after a severe crash in August 2022.

Professional cyclist Chris Froome, who won the Tour de France four times, has announced he will not return to professional cycling following a serious crash in August 2022. During a training ride, Froome suffered a fractured vertebra, punctured lungs, five broken ribs, and a tear in the pericardium (the sac surrounding the heart). He has not competed since.
At the time of the crash, Froome was under contract with the Israel Premier-Tech team (now called NSN), which also includes Latvian rider Krists Neilands. He joined the team in 2021 after a long stint with Ineos Grenadiers. Froome dominated the Tour de France from 2013 to 2017, winning four titles, and added a stage win in the 2018 Giro d'Italia.
After a 2019 crash in the Critérium du Dauphiné left him with multiple fractures, Froome struggled to return to top form. His best result thereafter was third place in a stage of the 2022 Tour de France.
