Culture Minister Puntulis on musicians' pay, Architecture Law, SIF and streaming levy
Latvian Culture Minister Nauris Puntulis discussed pay in the sector, the Architecture Law, the future of the Society Integration Foundation and a streaming platform levy on the TV programme "Rīta Panorāma".

Latvia's Culture Minister Nauris Puntulis (National Alliance, NA) appeared on the morning programme "Rīta Panorāma" to explain current issues in the cultural sector: the pay of professional ensemble musicians, the Architecture Law, the future of the Society Integration Foundation (SIF) and a levy on streaming platforms. Discontent is present in the sector, and decisions on several of these matters are still pending.
Discontent over pay
For years, the pay of musicians in professional ensembles has lagged behind the average level in the public sector. An action called "Kultūra (iz)dzīvo" (roughly "Culture Survives/Lives") is planned for November.
Legislation and the fund
The Architecture Law, promoted by the Ministry of Culture, is nearing adoption. Decisions are also still to be made on the future of the Society Integration Foundation (SIF).
Streaming platform levy
The question of introducing a levy on streaming platforms has become topical again, because the prime minister recently suggested postponing the plan for a time. This topic was also part of the conversation with the minister.
The programme aimed to explain developments in the cultural sector and answer questions about its future.
