Which Android foldable comes closest to Apple's iPhone Duo?
Engadget compares Apple's first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, with book-style foldables from Samsung, Google and Motorola. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 comes closest on screen size and cameras, but no exact match exists.
Tech outlet Engadget has published a comparison trying to identify which Android foldable is most similar to the iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable phone. Apple arrives in this category well after Samsung, Google and Motorola, which have sold book-style foldables, phones that open up into a small tablet, for years. No perfect counterpart exists, because the models differ in size, cameras and durability.
Screens and weight
The Duo has a 5.4-inch outer screen and a 7.6-inch inner display. The nearest match is Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8, with a 7.6-inch inner and 5.5-inch cover screen. Google's Pixel 11 Pro Fold is bigger, at 8 inches inside and 6.5 inches outside. Motorola's Razr Fold is the largest, with a nearly 8.1-inch inner display and a 6.6-inch cover screen. All three Android models are lighter than the 9-ounce Duo: the Z Fold 8 weighs 7.09 ounces, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold 8.4 and the Razr Fold 8.6.
Cameras and durability
The Duo has a 12-megapixel front camera and two 48MP rear cameras. The Z Fold 8 has two 50MP rear cameras and a 10MP front camera. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has a 48MP main camera plus a 10.8MP telephoto lens, which the Duo lacks. The Razr Fold offers 50MP main, ultrawide and telephoto cameras and a 20MP selfie camera. For dust and water resistance, only the Pixel 11 Pro Fold matches the Duo's IP68 rating; the Z Fold 8 is rated IP48 and the Razr Fold IP48/IP49.
Battery and price
Apple has not disclosed the Duo's battery capacity, saying only that it lasts up to 24 hours of mixed use. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has a 4,806mAh battery, the Z Fold 8 4,800mAh and the Razr Fold 6,000mAh. The Duo starts at $1,999.99 for 256GB, while the Z Fold 8 (256GB), Pixel 11 Pro Fold (256GB) and Razr Fold (512GB) start at $1,899.99. Google and Samsung offer 1TB versions, but none matches the Duo's 2TB option.
Engadget concludes that among devices available in the US, the Z Fold 8 is the closest. It also notes Xiaomi's 18 Fold, with 7.68-inch and 5.38-inch screens, which is not sold in the US.
