Kurzeme Hostess Ināra Prioritizes Family Recipe Over Tradition for Midsummer
Ināra from Kurzeme prefers to serve what tastes good at Midsummer rather than traditional dishes. Her special dessert – a white sweet treat with grandmother's kissel – is a family recipe beloved by her grandchildren.

As Midsummer approaches, many Latvians prepare traditional foods like cheese, pies, and beer. However, Ināra, a hostess from the Kurzeme region, believes that during celebrations, the most important thing is what the family enjoys, not strict adherence to tradition. She admits that in recent years she has not made Jāņi cheese at all, but her family's special recipe always makes it to the table.
Ināra says she always finds time to prepare this dish, and she thinks about each guest. The dessert is particularly awaited by her grandchildren – they look forward to the white, sweet dish made with grandmother's kissel. This kissel tastes unlike any other, and Ināra adds a special spice to it. She skillfully achieves a beautiful pink color for the rhubarb kissel without losing the distinct flavor of rhubarb.
