Best Meal Delivery Services of 2025: From Gluten-Free to GLP-1 Support
An ex-restaurant critic tested multiple meal kit and prepared meal services, highlighting Green Chef for gluten-free options and Tempo for those on GLP-1 medications.

Wired's former restaurant critic has reviewed ten meal delivery services, offering detailed assessments.
Green Chef, part of HelloFresh, excels for those with dietary restrictions. Over half its meals are gluten-free, prepared in dedicated facilities certified by the Gluten Intolerance Group. Ingredients are traceable, and no contamination has been reported. Priced at $14 per serving, it's pricier but delivers quality: gluten-free dishes like bavette steak in creamy red pepper sauce or honey-ginger shrimp rice bowl are delicious without needing gluten substitutes.
Tempo by Home Chef is a prepared meal service ideal for GLP-1 medication users. About two-thirds of meals have over 30 grams of protein, and at least ten are balanced for GLP-1 diets. Meals are nutritious and easy to prepare: three minutes in the microwave or eight in an air fryer. Cost is $11–$13 per serving.
Other tested services: Sunbasket offers fresh, organic ingredients and variety but is pricey. Gardencup provides ready-to-eat salads and soups; however, due to a cyclospora outbreak in summer 2026, it's been removed from recommendations. Factor is HelloFresh's never-frozen prepared meal plan – proteins maintain texture, but some low-carb meals can be mushy. Fuel Meals is an economical choice with high protein and minimal ingredients. Wildgrain is a monthly bread box with par-baked items finished at home. Thistle offers plant-based meals with an option to add meat, popular with solo diners.
