Several traffic restrictions will apply in Riga on 11 November, Lāčplēsis Day, when Latvia commemorates soldiers who fell in its fight for independence. The city council's External Communications Department informed the news agency LETA. The measures affect road traffic, public transport and water traffic on the City Canal.

Embankment closure and torchlight march

From 5 p.m. until midnight, vehicle traffic will be closed on the 11 November Embankment between Vanšu Bridge and Akmens Bridge. During this time, two-way traffic will operate on Pils Street between Poļu Embankment and Doma Square, and on Doma Square between Pils Street and Jēkaba Street.

A torchlight march will start at 4:40 p.m. from the Riga Brothers' Cemetery and head to Freedom Square and the 11 November Embankment. It will pass along Varoņu, Gaujas, Miera and Brīvības streets, Brīvības Boulevard, Freedom Square and Kaļķu Street. Traffic on the route will be restricted or closed if necessary.

Āgenskalns and bus routes

From 8 p.m. on 9 November until noon on 12 November, Bāriņu Street will be closed in both directions between Uzvaras Boulevard and the turning point near Hermaņa Street, with stopping and parking banned. The restrictions are linked to the event "Rīga, mūžības skartā".

In that period, the routes of buses 4, 7, 8, 21, 25, 38, 39 and 55 will change in the Āgenskalns area. The stops "Āgenskalna tirgus" and "Eduarda Smiļģa iela" will be closed, and temporary stops will be placed on Mazā Nometņu Street, near building No. 27.
