Since last autumn, a free shop has been running in the village of Laidi, based on the initiative of local residents. The idea was submitted to the municipal contest “Let’s Do It Ourselves” by the Laidi Manor community group and received support.

According to Inga Bermaka, the idea’s author and hostess of Laidi Manor, experience with similar projects in Riga inspired her to create a similar place in Laidi. The concept is simple – people can bring items they no longer need and take what they find useful. Most often, the shop receives clothes, shoes, household goods, and toys.

The most popular items are children’s clothes, as children grow quickly and need frequent replacements. Men’s clothes are also in high demand – local men often come asking for shirts. The organizers remind that it is important not only to bring items but also to take them, so that things circulate rather than just accumulate.

The free shop is set up in a shed that community members renovated and furnished themselves. It is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 to 14:00, and at other times by arrangement – call 22121155.
