A 1997 Ferrari F50, an Italian supercar showing only 106 miles (about 170 kilometres) on its odometer, will be offered at an auction run by Broad Arrow Auctions in Las Vegas, USA, on 31 October. The auction house estimates the car's value at more than 20 million US dollars, over twice the current F50 auction record of 9.245 million dollars.

The figure is only an initial estimate, not a guaranteed sale price.

History of the car

This is one of the last F50s built. It is number 334 of 349 cars produced in total, and was completed on 6 August 1997. It was first sold to a customer in the United Kingdom, later went to Japan, and returned to Europe in 2015 to its current owner in Germany.

The car has seen very little use: the bodywork shows practically no signs of wear, and it still wears its factory-fitted tyres. Before the sale it was shipped to the USA, where it received servicing and a Ferrari Classiche inspection. It is painted in the traditional Rosso Corsa red, with a black leather interior and red seat centre inserts. Several original accessories have been kept, including a Schedoni luggage set, a special transport case and Tod's driving shoes.

Technical details

The Ferrari F50 was released to mark the company's 50th anniversary. At its core is a naturally aspirated 4.7-litre V12 engine, with a design based on Formula 1 engine technology. It produces 520 horsepower and 471 Nm of peak torque. Combined with a six-speed manual gearbox, it accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, and its top speed reaches 325 km/h.
