Use of Latgalian Language in Official Communication Discussed in Program 'Kolnasāta'
The director of the State Language Center and Latgalian language activists discussed to what extent written Latgalian in the public sphere is a cultural issue and a matter of state language policy.

A discussion on the use of the Latgalian language in official communication took place in the program 'Kolnasāta'. Participants – Inese Muhka, director of the State Language Center, musician and historian Arnis Slobožaņins, and singer Ansis Ataols Bērziņš – assessed whether the use of written Latgalian in public spaces is solely a cultural issue or also one of state language policy.
Slobožaņins and Bērziņš are active users of the Latgalian language, employing it in speech, writing, and legal correspondence with institutions. The discussion sought to determine the extent to which the Latgalian language should be officially recognized and used in documents beyond the realm of culture.
