Latvia to Experience African Heatwave from June 27

According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center, a heatwave will hit Latvia from June 27, with temperatures reaching up to 35°C in some areas.

Forecasts from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center indicate that hot air from the south will begin flowing into western and central Latvia on June 25 and 26, with the real heat starting on Saturday, June 27. At noon that day, Jelgava and Dobele will see temperatures of 31°C, while Riga, Bauska, and Ogre will reach 30°C. The hottest areas on Saturday will be central Latvia and eastern Kurzeme. Nighttime will offer little relief, with temperatures around 20°C in Zemgale and Riga.

On Sunday, June 28, the heat will intensify across the country, except for the Baltic Sea coast in Kurzeme. Jelgava is forecast to reach 35°C, Bauska and Dobele 34°C, and Riga, Tukums, and Ogre 33°C. Most of Latvia will see at least 30°C at noon. The night into Monday will be warmer in Riga and Zemgale compared to the previous night.

Monday, June 29, will continue the heat, with even warmer nights in Riga and Zemgale: at 3 a.m., Jelgava, Dobele, and Bauska are expected to be 23°C, and Riga and its surroundings 22°C. The first significant relief is expected only on Wednesday evening, July 1, with heavy rain forecast.
