Only One Person Named Līgo in Latvia, but 25 Named Līgonis

Data compiled by the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP) reveals an interesting fact about names related to the Līgo festival in Latvia.

At the start of this year, only one resident in the country was registered with the given name "Līgo". Additionally, 25 people had the name "Līgonis", including two cases where it was a middle name. There was also one resident named "Līgons" and two named "Līgotnis".

Interestingly, surnames with the same root are more common. Latvia has 50 residents with the surname "Līgotnis" and 53 with "Līgotne". These figures show that while the given names are rare, their derivatives in surname form are more widespread.
