Latvia and Ukraine Commemorate Victims of 1941 Soviet Deportations
On June 14, Latvia and other Baltic states mark the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Communist Genocide, recalling the mass deportations of 1941 that also affected Ukraine.

Latvia, along with the other Baltic states, remembers the tragic events of the 1941 Soviet deportations on June 14. This day is designated as the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Communist Genocide.
The deportations in June 1941 took place across all western territories that had been seized by the Red Army under the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact. These events affected not only Latvia but also Ukraine and other regions that fell under Soviet control.
Although Latvia and Ukraine commemorate this tragedy separately, it represents a shared chapter in history that serves as a reminder of the crimes committed by the totalitarian regime. Memorial events are held throughout Latvia to honor the deportees and their families.
