From 2 to 10 November, the National Armed Forces of Latvia (the country's military) will conduct exercises in the eastern border region, in the Alūksne, Balvi and Ludza municipalities, including the Kārsava area. The drills will practise the deployment of units, test elements of the Baltic Defence Line and strengthen cooperation with the State Border Guard and the State Police. Residents will be able to see the movement of participants throughout this period.
What the exercises involve
The armed forces, working with both agencies, will train unit deployment and movement in the border territory. The state border and elements of the Baltic Defence Line will also be surveyed, in both daylight and darkness.
Particular attention will go to coordination between the institutions involved, information exchange and joint action. The aim is to improve the ability to respond promptly and effectively to possible security threats along the eastern border.
Part of regular training
The exercises are planned as part of the military's regular training process. Its purpose is to maintain and raise the combat readiness of units, test the practical implementation of defence plans and strengthen the country's defence capabilities.
Defence authorities stress that regular military training and close cooperation between the National Armed Forces, the State Border Guard and the State Police are an essential part of comprehensive national defence. This ensures coordinated action by state institutions in various security situations.
What residents should know
During the exercises, soldiers and military vehicles will be seen moving around the named municipalities. The armed forces thank residents for their support in strengthening Latvia's defence.
